Owning a dog comes with a lot of love but sometimes it also comes with a lot of mess. From puppy training to the occasional vomit to the ‘accidents’ that occur as they get older, there is often a lot of clean up.
There are some things you can do to help your home stay clean even when your puppy is making a mess.
Toilet Training
One of the best ways to limit the amount of mess in your home is to fully toilet train your puppy ASAP. Whether it’s using a specific indoor area with a pee pad, or going outside to pee or poop, your life will be kept cleaner by proper toilet training.
Multiple products can help you keep things clean during training, encourage your pup on where they should go or clean up after the inevitable accidents.
Designate Their Space
A great way to minimise the spread of this mess is to limit the areas they are allowed access to inside your home. Especially if your furry friend is going to spend most of their time at home alone whilst you're out at work.
Whether you opt to have them outside in your yard, in a single room in your house or a crate, keeping them contained will also keep any mess contained. You’ll then only need to clean up this designated area to keep your home fresh and clean.
Keep them Clean
You don't need to bath your dog daily but giving them a regular bath will keep them smelling fresh and maintain skin and coat health. Another option is to wipe your pup's paws after each walk to make sure they aren't bringing dirt inside.
Just remember that washing them too frequently might damage their skin health. Keeping your pup clean will help keep your house not only looking fresh and clean but also smelling that way.
Depending on the type of fur your dog has, it may be a good idea to have them professionally groomed regularly to keep their coat clipped. You will also need to periodically trim your pup's nails. You can have a groomer do this for a small cost, or your local vet may do it for free.
Keeping the mess minimal when you are living with a furry friend isn't hard. It just takes small amounts of effort regularly.
